Why Vietnam works for families
A lot of what's good in Vietnam happens on boats, bridges and cable cars, and kids love all three. Distances within each region are short. Transfers come with every package, so nobody is dragging bags onto public transport.
With younger children, start with Phu Quoc. There's VinWonders and Vinpearl Safari, speedboat days between the islands, and the sea cable car to Hon Thom. Further north, the Golden Bridge and the lantern boats in Hoi An go down well with grandparents and toddlers alike.
Planning for a family of 4: a worked example
Say you're two adults and two kids, aged 6 and 11, with about a week. These are the things we'd talk through with you before you settle on one of our Vietnam tour packages for a family of 4.
Rooms come first. Our prices are per adult on twin sharing. Can all four of you fit in one room? That depends on the hotel and how old the children are. Some hotels have family rooms or extra beds. Others will need two rooms. Your trip planner checks this hotel by hotel along your route.
Next, pace. Kids get tired quickly when you keep changing hotels. Fewer stops, with two or three nights in each place, usually makes for a happier family. The Phu Quoc Island Escape keeps you in one spot for all 5 nights. Hanoi, Ha Long & Da Nang uses just two bases across 7 nights.
Mix it up. A day at VinWonders or Ba Na Hills is long and tiring, so follow it with a lazy beach morning or a short walk in town.
Then the money. The prices you see are for adults. What a child costs depends on age, the hotel and whether they need an extra bed, so child pricing is confirmed by your trip planner once you send your details. You'll see one full price for all four of you before paying anything.

Beach break or sightseeing trip?
Small kids? Phu Quoc is the simplest answer. The Phu Quoc Resort Break comes with a two-day VinWonders and Safari ticket, a speedboat day around the islands with lunch, and an evening at Grand World. The Island Escape adds the Kiss of the Sea night show on top.
Older children who like seeing new things will get more out of the north and centre. Ha Long Bay one day, a sampan in Ninh Binh the next, then the Golden Bridge and Hoi An, so every day looks different. Hanoi, Da Nang & Phu Quoc finishes with four nights on Phu Quoc, which means the trip winds down slowly.
Food, flights and paperwork
Vegetarian food isn't hard to find if you plan a little, and Hanoi, Da Nang and Hoi An all have Indian restaurants. On cruises, vegetarian meals are available on request.
Our packages are land only. Flights from India aren't included, but we can arrange them on request for the whole family and quote them separately. Every traveller needs a Vietnam e-visa, kids included, applied for online before you go. Leave at least two weeks. We'll help with the forms.
